Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Virtual Assistant?
A virtual assistant is a remote administrative or online digital assistant who works for a company or individual on a self-employed or contract basis. You save money on office space, equipment, benefits and taxes.
What services does a VA provide?
A virtual assistant helps with office management work but can also tackle a variety of writing, editing, design, marketing, and social media-related activities.
How much does a VA cost?
My packages are based on hours per month of service, starting as small as 10 hours up to 25 hours per month. Please click here: Virtual Assistance or on the link at the top of this page to see the services I offer and package options.
What is the difference between Copyediting and Proofreading?
Copyediting includes a full review of the content at the sentence level, focusing on language, style, structure, and accuracy in both facts and grammar.
Proofreading is a final check for surface-level errors before publication. This sentence-level editing is focused on formatting, spelling, grammar, and fine details.
Why do I need you to do this? Doesn't AI do a better job?
Relying on an AI tool for proofreading is tempting, but algorithms can only catch so much without understanding the context, tone, and voice of a piece of writing.
For example, AI will not catch the misspelling of a person's name, homonyms, inconsistencies in time and place, and verb tense or formatting issues, to name just a few.
Ultimately, AI can be used to help improve writing as a whole, but the feedback of a human proofreader for more nuanced errors and personalized feedback is most beneficial.
Also, remember that once you upload your writing into an AI tool, it is added to the catalog of works AI will use to create "new" works, so it is no longer 'your' work per se.
What type of documents do you work on?
I proofread, create, and edit books/manuscripts, business documents, brochures, advertisements, website content, and more. If it's the written word, I can help ensure your work is as error-free as possible, in tone, voice, and context.
What is your typical turnaround time?
My turnaround time will vary depending on the length and complexity of the work required and is dependent on our contract, but I will strive to meet your deadlines and accommodate rush requests, whenever possible, for an additional fee. For example, proofreading a 200 page document will take approximately 40 hours at a rate of 5 pages per hour.
How much do you charge?
My proofreading & editing services are per project based. Please click here: Proofreading & Editing or on the link at the top of this page to see my pricing.
